Step 1: Warp Your Loom

Set up your small rigid heddle loom by warping it with your preferred warp yarn. Use the warping peg or warping board to create an even warp with the desired length and width for your jacket.

Step 2: Select Your Weft Yarn

Choose a soft and durable weft yarn in the color or colors of your choice. Make sure it complements your warp yarn well and will create the desired effect in your weaving.

Step 3: Start Weaving

Begin weaving using your chosen weft yarn. Follow a simple plain weave pattern or experiment with different patterns to add texture and visual interest to your jacket. Remember to maintain an even beat and tension as you weave.

Step 4: Continue Weaving and Create the Desired Length

Keep weaving until you achieve the desired length for your jacket. You can measure it against your body or use a standard jacket length as a guide. Don't forget to leave room for the sleeves!

Step 5: Finish the Weaving

Once you're satisfied with the length, finish the weaving by following the appropriate technique for your loom. This may involve tying off the ends, cutting the fabric from the loom, or any other method recommended by your loom's manufacturer.

Step 6: Cut and Prepare the Fabric

Carefully cut the woven fabric, making sure to account for seam allowances and any desired shaping or alterations. Iron the fabric to remove any wrinkles and prepare it for stitching.

Step 7: Sew the Jacket Pieces Together

Using a sewing machine or needle and thread, stitch together the different pieces of your jacket. This includes the back, front panels, and sleeves. Follow the provided pattern for guidance on the correct measurements and stitching techniques.

Step 8: Add Lining (Optional)

If desired, add a fabric lining to your jacket for added comfort and durability. This step will give your jacket a professional finish and protect your skin from any itchiness that the weaving may cause.

Step 9: Finishing Touches

Complete your jacket by adding buttons or any closure of your choice. This will allow you to wear it comfortably and keep it securely fastened.

By following our step-by-step instructions and using the provided pattern, you'll be able to create a simple kimono-style jacket that showcases both your weaving skills and your personal style. ONE SIZE FITS ALL: This traditional kimono style jacket is a loosely fitting garment, flattering to all figures. The chest circumference is 50 inches/127 cm; length is 23 inches/58 cm, excluding fringe. It is woven with worsted weight (Aran) yarn.

If you are new to Rigid Heddle Loom weaving and especially if you are a knitter with some gorgeous worsted weight "knitting" yarns in your stash AND you are ready to move on from simple scarves, towels, placemats and dish/wash cloths to a garment you can wear, I hope you'll consider my Easy Woven Jacket pattern.

It's best if your loom is a minimum of 15 inches/38 cm wide, although with an extra warping and sewing an extra strip together, you could certainly make this jacket on a smaller loom.

I designed the garment to be a series of rectangles, just like a traditional kimono, with a loose fitting ease that will flatter every figure. You'll do four warpings for the Back, Front, Sleeve and Neckband sections and you'll cut the large pieces to make smaller sections. The back piece is assembled with a central seam and I provide detailed instructions with color photos to show you how to do it all.

The garment is sewn together on your sewing machine. I highly recommend you have a walking (dual feed) foot for this project. It will move your woven fabric along "like buttah!" as we used to say back in Brooklyn where I grew up.

I'm an experienced hand knitting pattern designer but I'm new to rigid heddle loom weaving, so I designed a VERY EASY and BASIC garment that I, as a new weaver, could easily make. If I could do it, YOU can do it!

As with all my designs, I'm always ready and eager to answer questions my buyers have. Just Email me at the Email address listed on the pattern and I'll answer you promptly.

I hope your sense of fun and adventure will lead you to try my Easy Woven Jacket on your rigid heddle loom.
