By His Daughter Geraldine Pratchett Hultkrantz: A Legacy of Creativity

When it comes to discussing influential literary figures, one name that resonates with readers of all ages is Sir Terry Pratchett. Known for his witty and imaginative storytelling, Pratchett was a master of the fantasy genre, creating an entire universe known as Discworld. But behind every great writer is a supportive network, and in Pratchett's case, that support came from none other than his daughter, Geraldine Pratchett Hultkrantz.
A Creative Heritage
Growing up in the Pratchett household, creativity was a way of life for Geraldine. She was exposed to her father's writing process from a young age, observing how he crafted complex characters and weaved intricate plots. This upbringing ignited her own passion for artistic expression, and it wasn't long before she began forging her own path in the creative world.
As a child, Geraldine dabbled in various art forms, experimenting with painting, sculpting, and even music. She inherited her father's fascination with the fantastical, often incorporating magical themes into her artwork. Her talent and dedication were evident, and it soon became clear that Geraldine was destined to leave her mark on the creative landscape.

Exploring the Visual Realm
While Terry Pratchett's medium of choice was words, Geraldine found solace in the visual realm. She embraced the world of digital art, using innovative techniques to bring her imaginative ideas to life. From whimsical illustrations to surreal digital collages, Geraldine's artwork captured the attention of art enthusiasts and critics alike.
Geraldine's artistic style is characterized by intricate details, vibrant colors, and a touch of whimsy. Her pieces often depict dreamlike landscapes, mythical creatures, and otherworldly beings. Each creation serves as a visual feast for the eyes, encouraging viewers to escape reality and immerse themselves in a world of enchantment.
An Influential Muse
In addition to her individual artistic pursuits, Geraldine's role as her father's muse cannot be overlooked. Terry Pratchett often sought inspiration from his daughter's artwork, drawing ideas for his novels from her imaginative creations. Their collaborative relationship was a testament to the power of artistic synergy, with both father and daughter pushing the boundaries of their respective mediums.
This collaboration reached a new level when Geraldine was commissioned to illustrate some of Pratchett's most beloved novels. Her talent brought Discworld to life in a way that resonated with readers, seamlessly blending her own artistic vision with her father's literary genius.
A Lasting Legacy
Tragically, Terry Pratchett passed away in 2015, leaving behind a rich legacy of literature. But his legacy is kept alive, in part, through the artistic endeavors of his daughter, Geraldine Pratchett Hultkrantz. She continues to create and inspire, serving as a testament to her father's enduring influence.
Geraldine's artistic journey has evolved over the years, exploring new mediums and experimenting with different styles. Today, she is not only renowned for her digital art but also for her textile creations. Her embroidered artworks have gained widespread recognition for their intricate stitchwork, capturing the essence of her father's storytelling through a different medium.
Inspiring Future Generations
As an artist, Geraldine Pratchett Hultkrantz understands the transformative power of creativity. She continues to inspire others through workshops and speaking engagements, sharing her experiences and encouraging aspiring artists to embrace their own unique visions.
Whether it's through her digital art or textile creations, Geraldine ensures that her father's influence remains alive and well. She honors his memory by keeping the worlds of Discworld and art intertwined, reminding us all of the magic that can be found within our own imagination.
A Continuing Collaboration
Geraldine Pratchett Hultkrantz's journey as an artist is far from over. She's currently exploring new avenues, collaborating with fellow artists to create immersive experiences that blend art, literature, and technology.
Through these collaborations, she aims to create interactive worlds that transport audiences into the realms of fantasy. By combining her innovative artwork with emerging technologies, Geraldine seeks to push the boundaries of storytelling and redefine what it means to be an artist in the digital age.
No matter where her artistic journey takes her, one thing is certain: Geraldine Pratchett Hultkrantz will continue to honor her father's legacy while forging her own path in the creative world. Her unique vision and unwavering passion serve as an inspiration to us all, reminding us to embrace our artistic spirit and never stop imagining.

This is the story of my father's adventures and experiences as a Naval Mine and Torpedo Disposal Officer during World War II. He was one of the chosen few to be in the 30th Assault Unit under Commander Ian Fleming of James Bond fame. In fact Ian Fleming incorporated the tasks and experiences of the 30th Assault Unit in his books about James Bond. My father was sent behind enemy lines to capture code books and torpedoes, and even high-ranking officers of the enemy.
After the Allies had regained control in Europe my father was sent to the Far East together with a colleague to capture a very special torpedo that the Japanese had developed. Whilst they were there the Japanese surrendered and they were able to get hold of the desired torpedo and ship it back to England.
Lucky to still be alive my father returned to Britain in August 1946, and this stranger came into my life. I had only seen him once during the six years that he was away. As he was still under the Official Secrets Act when he died in 1967, he never talked about his war years but luckily he left a great number of documents and over one hundred photographs that he managed to take during the war which have helped me in my research to write this book. I hhave been able to use many of his photos.
